Saturday Night Fever ’Let’s Dance With the Stars’ returns on Saturday – Foster’s Daily Democrat

SANFORD — Dancing duos will be the main attraction when the popular “Let’s Dance With the Stars” competition returns to the Memorial Gym at 688 Main Street on Saturday night.The annual event, which pairs local professional dancers with “celebrity” novices, is a fundraiser for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.Eight dancing pairs will compete.Last season’s runner up, Naomi McCormack, will be partnered with Ron Lund, of the York County Sheriff’s Department.Diane Higgins, the owner of Diane’s School of Dance, will be partnered with former student, Scott Potter. Representing Northern Explosion Dance Center is Heather Roux, who will be partnered with Sanford business owner Steve Horne.Last season’s popular-vote winner, Lori Hegarty, will be partnered with John Rivard, the owner of YRL Group. Mario Barros, representing Diane’s School of Dance, will be partnered with Sanford Institution for Savings’ Karen Ashley.Katie Brooks, the owner of Brooks Dance Center, will be dancing with Marcus Verrill, the co-owner of Fresco Mexican Grill. Last season’s Judges’ Choice winner, Kendra O’Connell, will be partnered with Sanford High School’s principal, Jed Petsinger.Rounding out the field will be Cherie Monson, from the Steppin’ Out Dance Centre, and Southern Maine Medical Center’s Steve Weinert.The judges for this year’s event will be Lianne Penley, of Lebanon, a jazz-and-tap and hip-hop instructor; George Kane, of Sanford, a ballroom dance instructor; and Laurence Miller, a longtime dancer and judge.A limited number of reserved table seats are available for $15 per person. General-admission bleacher seats are $10 per person. Tickets can be purchased at Diane’s School of Dance, JazzTappin’ Dance Academy, Northern Explosion Dance Studio, Steppin’ Out Dance Centre and Sanford Institution for Savings (Sanford, South Sanford, and Springvale locations) or by calling Joanne Livingston at 490-7027.Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the competition will kick off at 7 p.m.This is an alcohol- and tobacco-free event.
