This is the first time since 1999 that the traditional parade returned to Atlantic City and 53 pageant contestants rode in convertibles showing their elaborate decorated shoes to over 200,000 spectators.In May, the local studio received an invitation to perform in the parade. Subsequently, the studio dancers, ages 10-18, practiced during the summer months learning the choreography to the song, Footloose, set by a Walt Disney World choreographer. On Saturday morning, the local dancers met with over 600 dancers from New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, North Carolina for their final rehearsal in the Atlantic City Convention Center before performing it down the 2 mile world famous Atlantic City Boardwalk that evening.Meredith Shaw-Schmidt, the studio’s artistic director states, “Having the opportunity to perform in this famous parade with many other dancers, performers, and contestants was truly an experience that we will cherish.
