Goodrich teen thanks supporters following ‘American Idol’ exit

GENESEE COUNTY, MI – The ”American Idol” run is over for Atlas Township teen Genavieve Linkowski.

But the 19-year-old wasn’t down the day after celebrity judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan didn’t pick her to make it into the top 50 contestants following her solo audition during Hollywood Week.

”I cannot express how amazing of an experience I had on this show, and even though my American Idol journey ended, I believe it’s just the beginning for so much more!” she said in a Monday, April 2, social media post.

Linkowski was chosen as a contestant on the ABC reboot of the former Fox singing competition show after a casting producer spotted a May 2017 viral video of the home-school teacher signing Little Big Town’s ”Better Man” at the Burton Volunteers of America store.

Thinking the first message she’d received from the producer was a joke, Linkowski ignored it.

But a second call came and then a Skype audition, followed by traveling to Dallas for an audition, and a performance in front of the judges at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee, where she sang Jason Mraz’s song ”I Won’t Give Up,” and receiving the invite to Hollywood.

She made it through the first round of judging, with Richie comparing Linkowski’s voice to that of Celine Dion. She made her exit from the show Sunday night after singing a rendition of ”Praying” by Kesha.

Linkowski added in her post that she won’t give up on her dream ”because I know this is God’s call that He has for me, and God’s will is better than anything I could ever imagine!”

She thanked people alongside her for the journey for ”all the support you’ve given to me and continue to give me” and gave a shout out to the show as well.

”Thank you @americanidol for allowing me to be on the show and share what I have with America! The best is yet to come!”
