Jonghyun of SHINee dies aged 27

Kim Jong-hyun, the lead singer of K-pop boyband SHINee, has died aged 27.

The boyband star, known mononymously as Jonghyun, passed away after being brought to hospital.

According to Reuters, police found Jonghyun unconscious in his apartment in Cheongdam-dong in the Gangnam district after his sister filed a police report concerned for his welfare.

He was taken to hospital after being found at 6.10pm Korea time on 18 December, but was pronounced dead.

Police are investigating his death. Local reports suggest that it may have been a suicide.

Fans have taken to social media to mourn the loss of the singer after the shocking news.

Earlier this year, SHINee released their fifth Japanese album Five, and toured across Japan until April.

They also performed in the Tokyo Dome and Kyocera Dome in September.

The group were formed in 2008 and debuted months later, with Jonghyn beginning to write songs for the idols the following year.

SHINee have been called the Princes of K-Pop due to their complex dance routines and incredible live vocals, earning huge hits with songs including Sherlock, Replay, Ring Ding Dong and Dream Girl.

Jonghyun launched his solo career in 2015 with his first EP, Base, going on to release his debut album She Is in 2016.

In April this year, he released his second compilation album, Story Op.2.

The idol performed two solo concerts in Seoul earlier this month.

Just yesterday, a trailer was shared for next week’s episode of JTCB’s reality show Night Goblins which showed Jonghyun and his SHINee bandmate Minho attempt to be first in line for the hottest restaurants and recreation sites with the Goblins.
