CAPE TOWN – Idols South Africa winner Paxton Fielies says that she’s now setting her sights on building her singing career.

The Capetonian was crowned the winner of 13 season on Sunday in Johannesburg.

Fielies, aged 17, who hails from Bishop Lavis, was the season’s youngest finalist.

Her family members say they were bursting with pride when she was announced as the winner.

There were loud cheers, with some crying tears of joy.

The teen thanked her family and fans for supporting her journey.

“In my community there’s a lot of gangsterism and there’s a lot going on. For them to just gather, for just one day, is amazing. It shows the support is still there. It shows they support youngsters. I would like to thank everyone who gathered to watch the show.”

Fielies plans on completing her schooling.

”I will definitely complete my studies, whether it be through correspondence, online or home schooling. I don’t think I will be able to go to school with all the gigs or shows happening. For me, this is very important. I will need to manage my time to finish my studies. I want to focus on my music too up until January, to get my album out there.”
