’Timeless’ Finale Ratings Down From 2017 As Drama Awaits NBC Renewal …

No word yet from NBC whether Timeless is going to get a third season, but ratings results from last night’s cliffhanger-extreme Season 2 finale do not bode for the time-travel drama starring Matt Lanter, Abigail Spencer and Malcolm Barrett.

Having come off a cancellation and then a fan-generated renewal last year, Timeless went large Sunday with the two-hour ending to its 10-episode Season 2. That worked week-to-week, at least, but not year-to-year. While up 20% among adults 18-49 over its one-hour May 6 “The Day Reagan Was Shot” episode, and the best the series created by Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan has done since mid-March, Timeless took a 33% tumble from its Season 1 finale of February 20, 2017,

As NBC saw a 14-minute delay in the start of its East Coast primetime Sunday due to golf overrun, the 9-111 PM scheduled double dose of Timeless might have been an overreach, as the Season 1 fianle was only an hour. Then again, it was a night of doubles on the net as the season-concluding Genius Junior had showings at 7 PM (0.6/3) and 8 PM (0.5/2). An hour earlier than last week’s double, Genius Junior was basically steady with its ratings averages.

With that, as NBC aims to dazzle advertisers with its NYC upfront presentation today, there likely won’t be a ruling on Timeless‘ fate until later this week

With NBA playoff action between Boston and Cleveland on in the afternoon on ABC, the rest of the Big 4 escaped heavy cable competition Sunday. The Celtics’ 108-83 victory over the schooled Cavaliers scored a 5.4 in metered market ratings to become the highest-rated Eastern Conference Game 1 since 2015; it’s good news for the likes of TNT and ESPN which also have games on the schedule this week.

Overall, NBC was in last place like last week, with a 0.6/3 rating versus No. 1 ABC and its 1.3/5, also the same as the networks’ May 6 result. Once again, American Idol (1.6/7) was the night’s top show in the key demo, but the Ryan Seacrest-fronted competition series was down 11% from last week.

Bookending ABC’s night, America’s Funniest Home Videos (1.2/6) and Deception (0.7/3) were up a tenth and even, respectively, with last week’s fast affiliate numbers.

Having been pink-slipped by Fox last week then saved by NBC after a roar of social media protest — and today strutting its stuff at NBCUniversal’s upfront  — Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.8/4) was up a tenth last night over its May 6 airing.

On an almost full night of originals on Fox, which tied with CBS’ 0.8/4 for the second spot overall, the Andy Samberg-led cop comedy was matched by Bob’s Burgers for the net’s third highest-rated show of Sunday. The latter filled in the spot vacated by the now over and canceled The Last Man on Earth. As the for the two Fox top spots, Family Guy (1.0/4) and The Simpsons (0.9/4) were up a tenth and even, respectively.

Somewhat mirroring Fox’s results, CBS’ Madam Secretary (0.6/3) was up a tenth from last week while NCIS: Los Angeles (0.8/3) was even. A double-shot of 60 Minutes at 7 PM (0.84) and 8 PM (0.8/4) saw the news mag once again finish as Sunday night’s most watched show with 8.50 million tuning in for the first airing.
