  • Goodrich teen thanks supporters following ’American Idol’ exit

GENESEE COUNTY, MI – The ”American Idol” run is over for Atlas Township teen Genavieve Linkowski.

But the 19-year-old wasn’t down the day after celebrity judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan didn’t pick her to make it into the top 50 contestants following her solo audition during Hollywood Week.

”I cannot express how amazing of an experience I had on this show, and even though my American Idol journey ended, I believe it’s just the beginning for so much more!” she said in a Monday, April 2, social media post.

Linkowski was chosen as a contestant on the ABC reboot of the former Fox singing competition show after a casting producer spotted a May 2017 viral video of the home-school teacher signing Little Big Town’s ”Better Man” at the Burton Volunteers of America store.

Thinking the first message she’d received from the producer was a joke, Linkowski ignored it.

But a second call came and then a Skype audition, followed by traveling to Dallas for an audition, and a performance in front of the judges at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee, where she sang Jason Mraz’s song ”I Won’t Give Up,” and receiving the invite to Hollywood.

She made it through the first round of judging, with Richie comparing Linkowski’s voice to that of Celine Dion. She made her exit from the show Sunday night after singing a rendition of ”Praying” by Kesha.

Linkowski added in her post that she won’t give up on her dream ”because I know this is God’s call that He has for me, and God’s will is better than anything I could ever imagine!”

She thanked people alongside her for the journey for ”all the support you’ve given to me and continue to give me” and gave a shout out to the show as well.

”Thank you @americanidol for allowing me to be on the show and share what I have with America! The best is yet to come!”

  • Han får spela med sin idol

    07:30 | 2018-04-03

    – Jag går in i bubblan tidigt.

  • ’American Idol’ recap: Hollywood week #2

’American Idol’ recap: Hollywood week #2

AMERICAN IDOL – “107 (Hollywood Week)” – “American Idol” contestants continue to vie for their chance at stardom while in the heart of Los Angeles, as the search for AmericaÕs next superstar continues on its new home on AmericaÕs network, The ABC Television Network, SUNDAY, APRIL 1 (8:00-10:01 p.m. EDT). (ABC/Eric McCandless)
    MADDIE POPPE

Posted Sunday, April 1, 2018 by RODNEY HO/rho@ajc.com on his AJC Radio & TV Talk blog

The solo performances tonight give me confidence “Idol” will be able to find a solid top 10 for us to vote on in a couple of weeks.

They open the two hours with Chris Harrison of “The Bachelor” introducing the show. April Fool’s! (And ABC synergy alert!)

The third round features the classic three rooms, each with about 25 contestants. Two rooms go to the next round, one room goes home. “Idol” has been using this device for most of its first 15 seasons.

The top 50 is named tonight. Monday will be the “green mile” episode where the top 50 find out who the top 24 will be.

We heard 29 out of the 76 singers at least in part. They will do a “spotlight” performance in front of a live audience that will pare down the 50.

Up first: Gabby Barrett (17, Pittsburgh, Daddy’s Girl): In black leather, she goes old school with an R&B smooth cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Ain’t No Way.” A few over-strained notes but she can belt. Luke is especially psyched. “I feel like I smashed it,” she said.

Marcio Donaldson (28, Compton, Calif. server) – He twists “Natural Woman” (Aretha again) by going to “Natural Man.” We kind of only hear part of it since we hear him doing a narration. What little we hear is fine.

Effie Passero (26, Modesto, assistant property manager) – Her “Alone” is confident and strong though I can’t help but think of Carrie Underwood’s season four take. She goes a little overboard in the chorus but overall, her voice is super powerful and Katy gives her a standing O. No doubt she’s through.

Amelia Hammer Harris (26, Lexington, musician) – The daughter of a famous songwriter gives “Feel it Right” a real R&B tinge and we hear just enough of it to know she’s going through.

Cade Foehner (21, Shelbyville, Tex., student) – Unlike Amelia, he takes the Portugal, the Man hit bluesy Texas grit. And all three judges give him a standing ovation. “Take me back to ’68!” Lionel said, comparing him to Robert Plant.

Harper Grace (16, McKinney, high school student) – She sang an original song in her audition so she’s back with another one “Rest in Peace.’ On the keyboard, she brings a mature, airy pop voice. Impressive. “Luke Bryan kept smiling at me and I kept blushing,” she said.

Two of the quirkiest characters in Hollywood are “alpaca” Noah Davis and hyper happy dorky Catie Turner.

Noah (18, Royal, Ariz.) – He brings decent strength and vulnerability to “Piece by Piece” with a bit of Clay Aiken harm. But the judges felt like he lacked confidence. So he might be on the fence.

Catie (17, Langhorne, Pa., high school student) – “If I’m going out, I’m going out with no regrets.” She is so charming and her voice just warms the heart. Her lyrical content is exceptional. She can stab you with a smile. They can’t possibly not move her to the top 24.

Two folks sing Daughtry’s “Home.” We hear their versions interspersed.

Brandon Elder (23, Arab, construction) is the dude who sang a song about his dead mom that made me teary eyed. He is still pretty raw and growls a lot.

Dennis Lorenzo (26, Philadelphia, singer) offers a smoother, cleaner version.

Maddie Poppe (20, Clarksville, Iowa) She opted for an original song, “Don’t Ever Let You Children Grow Up,” as her dad recommended. She has one of my favorite voices in the competition and her song was good enough to highlight her strengths.

Michelle Sussette – She taught the judges how to dance during her audition – sorta. She lost her voice at the most inopportune time. She doesn’t sound terrible during a very spirited performance. She has some charisma and “Idol” could use a little Latin flair.

Ron Bultongez (21, Plano, Tex.) – He opts for Phillip Philips’ “Home” and while he looks super nervous, his vocals are interesting. He is far from perfect but he brings emotive power, which matters more. “Home is created by the people,” he said.

Jonny Brenns (18, St. Augustine, Fla., college student) – He does not have his dad’s approval pursuing music and it hurts. I like his voice but he is a bit shaky during the chorus. And he botches the end. (But surprise! He makes it through…)

Crystal Alicea (20, Winter Haven, Fla.) – She struggled with lyrics during Hollywood. She struggles with “Set Fire With the Rain.” Her notes are all over the place and then seals her fate by forgetting her lines. “Idol” didn’t even bother posting her video. Ouch. “She didn’t have confidence,” Katy said. “Learn the lyrics, girl.”

Deonte Baker (26, Chicago, vocal coach) – He has some good moments and Lionel liked it. But Luke and Katy looked pained. No way he’s coming back.

Jurnee, a favorite early on, gets montaged, along with Trevor Holmes. They both thought the judges liked him. I don’t feel I heard enough of either to proffer a firm opinion.

Maddie Zahm (19, Boise, Idaho, special education teacher) felt tentative to me during her initial audition but she has blossomed in Hollywood. What we hear sounds rock solid in a “Up to the Mountain.” Katy thinks she’s holding back.

Shannon O’Hara (17, Mooresville, NC, nanny) – It’s not the cleanest vocal of “Up to the Mountain” but she can bring out the emotion, which matters more. Very pretty.

Genavieve Linkowski. (19, Goodrich, Mich., home school teacher) She of the nine siblings goes for Kesha’s “Praying.” This is a super hard song and she is off key at times but it’s pretty good. Is pretty good good enough? Probably not.

Garrett Jacobs (18, Bossier City, La) – He is of the bluesy variety and smartly picks Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game.” He sounds decent but the judges feel like his voice is shot.

Brittany Holmes (28, Frisco, Tex., vocal coach) – She was rejected by the judges but the public voted her in during a DWTS promo. She is a professional, allowing us to “dive” into her feelings. The judges are clearly impressed.

Gabbii Jones (26, caretaker) – She has a time limit from her dad to make a go at this singing. But this “A Million Reasons” is super messy.

Thaddeus Johnson (25, Oklahoma City, server) – He goes for a Katy Perry “Rise” and gives it a lovely intense gospel feel. Katy gives him a standing ovation. He is in the top 50 for sure.

We hear a little bit of Kay Kay doing Adele, then Laine Hardy comes in. He’s the dude who whined about doing Justin Bieber during group. His Chris Stapleton is raspy as heck. The judges sound disappointed.

Caleb Lee Hutchinson (19, Dallas, GA) said he struggled being away from his family. The best shot to make the top 24 from Georgia charms the judges with “Your Man” by Josh Turner, Scotty McCreery’s tune. He isn’t the most charismatic on stage but his country sound hits the spot.

Final one we’ll hear: Michael Woodard. This bowling alley employee has a sweet soprano who decides to go Broadway with a “Cabaret” song, very different from his audition. His outfit looks like he’s trying out for “Grey’s Anatomy” but he has the judges on their feet. Katy puts her chair away and just stands to applaud.

Room 1 features Catie Turner, Maddie Zahn and Dennis Lorenzo.

Room 2 includes Crystal Alicea, Brandon Elder and Deonte Baker. It’s clearly the dead room. Lionel gives the bad news.

Room 3 features Jonny Brenns, Mara Justine and Ada Vox.

Thaddeus Johnson is inexplicably moved from room 1 to room 3. Is that just to mess with their heads??? Of course! In the end, it makes no difference because those are the two “live” rooms.

  • ’Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert’ Tops ’American Idol’ & ’The Passion’ To …

UPDATED, 10 AM: NBC won Easter Sunday primetime with Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, which drew 9.6 million total viewers and a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 in Live + Same Day from 8-10:23 PM in the official fast nationals.

The metered-market stats held up in the fast nationals, with Jesus Christ Superstar topping ABC’s American Idol head to head from 8-10 PM in 18-49 (1.7 vs. 1.6) and total viewers (9.8 million vs. 7.4 million).

The special led NBC to its most-watched Easter Sunday in 12 years with a 7-11 PM average of 7.434 million viewers, best for an NBC Easter since April 16, 2006, which hit 9.8 million. It also topped the comparable partially live Easter-season event on Fox two years ago, The Passion (1.6 in 18-49, 6.6 million viewers), as well as the most recent live musical on the broadcast networks, Fox’s A Christmas Story Live, (1.5 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers) this past December.

Compared with NBC’s holiday musicals — from the same producers as Jesus Christ Superstar, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan — the Easter special edged the most recent Hairspray Live! (9.1 million in December 2016) and Peter Pan Live! (9.2 million) in total viewers but was well below the viewer deliveries of the two highest-rated: The Sound of Music (12.2 million) and The Wiz (11.5 million).

Jesus Christ Superstar was older-skewing than the December musicals, the lowest-rated of which was Hairspray Live! (2.3 L+SD in 18-49).

Idol dipped week-to-week to hit a new viewership low and match a demo low for the ABC revival. New drama Deception (0.8, 4.2 million) was steady with its fast national last week.

Elsewhere, CBS’ Instinct (0.6, 6.7 million) drew less than half of the 1.3 demo rating it scored last week behind the highly rated 60 Minutes, which featured the interview with Stormy Daniels. NCIS: LA (0.8, 7.1 million) dropped three tenths, while Madam Secretary (0.5, 5.7 million) was off by two tenths to tie a demo low.

Fox’s Bob’s Burgers (0.6, 1.5 million) was off by two tenths, Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.8, 1.8 million) and Last Man on Earth (0.6, 1.4 million) each dipped a tenth, while The Simpsons (0.9, 2 million) and Family Guy (09, 2.1 million) held steady.

PREVIOUS, 7:15 AM: NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert last night drew a 6.0 rating in the metered market households from 8-10:15 PM. It topped ABC American Idol head-to-head from 8-10 PM (6.1 vs. 4.5) and tied CBS’ 60 Minutes as the top program of the night in households.

Jesus Christ Superstar scored NBC’s top rating in the time period, excluding sports and the Golden Globes, in three years (since Feb. 15, 2015 with the SNL 40 special). It was up +40% versus the comparable partially live Easter-season event on Fox two years ago, The Passion, in metered-market households (6.0 vs. 4.3 from 8-10 PM on Sunday, March 20, 2016).

Jesus Christ Superstar came from the same producers, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, who are behind NBC’s holiday season live musical productions. Of those, Jesus Christ Superstar edged the two lowest rated in households, the most recent Hairspray Live! (Dec. 2016) and Peter Pan Live!, which both averaged a 5.9 household rating in the metered markets, and was below the early delivery of the two highest-rated, The Sound Of Music and The Wiz.

Because of its subject matter, Jesus Christ Superstar is expected to be older-skewing than the December musicals. We will update with demo ratings and viewership stats later this morning.

With NBC taking a break this December, the most recent live production on broadcast TV was Fox’s A Christmas Story Live, which was handily topped by Jesus Christ Superstar in  metered-market households (6.0 vs. 2.8 from 7-10 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017).

  • Daytime Emmys 2018: Will Kellie Pickler graduate from ’American Idol’ finalist to …

Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood went from “American Idol” champs to award-winning musicians, but you don’t necessarily have to win “Idol” to win awards. Jennifer Hudson finished seventh in season three of the singing competition, but she went on to win a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for “Dreamgirls” (2006) and Grammys for Best R&B Album (“Jennifer Hudson,” 2009) and Best Musical Theater Album (“The Color Purple,” 2017). Now Kellie Pickler could go from “Idol” finalist to Daytime Emmy winner.

Pickler, who finished sixth in “American Idol” season five, is nominated for Best Informative Talk Show Host alongside her co-host Ben Aaron for their syndicated series “Pickler and Ben.” The series debuted just a few months ago in September 2017, so it has certainly hit the ground running in the awards derby. It tapes in Nashville, Tennessee, and features a combination of lifestyle and entertainment guests with segments on cooking, decorating, gardening, beauty and more.

This would be the first Emmy for Pickler, but not for Aaron, who previously won as a reporter on WNBC’s “New York Live.” And Aaron has another show up for awards this year: “Renovation Realities: Ben and Ginger,” featuring him and his wife Ginger Zee, contends for Best Lifestyle Program.

But Pickler and Aaron will have to get past a pair of past winners in this relatively young category, which was created in 2015 to honor hosts of informative talk shows that are distinguished from entertainment series like “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “The Talk” and “The View.” Mehmet Oz won in 2016 for “The Dr. Oz Show,” and Steve Harvey prevailed for his self-titled talk show in 2017 — both are back this year, and they’re the only two hosts who have been nominated for all four years this category has been presented.

And we mustn’t count out legendary broadcaster Larry King, nominated for the third year in a row for his Ora TV series “Larry King Now.” He previously received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 from the News and Documentary Emmys.

Rounding out the category are another pair of first-timers in this category, but not first-timers at the Emmys. Kit Hoover and Natalie Morales are up for “Access Hollywood Live.” Hoover was previously nominated in 2014 for Best Entertainment News Program for “Access Hollywood,” while Morales was a 2007 Emmy winner for Best Morning Program for “Today.”

Do you think Pickler and Aaron will be able to overcome that tough competition to win on their rookie nomination for Best Informative Talk Show Host?

  • ’This is just the beginning’: What’s next for local American Idol contestant

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Joshua Ward, a Wilmington teen, had to live with a secret for more than two months. For weeks he could not tell his friends and loved ones that his golden ticket to Hollywood did not get him very far.

But Ward is not letting this defeat keep him down.

The 16-year-old Ashley High School sophomore was featured briefly on last night’s episode of “American Idol.” His clips showed a range of emotions beginning with the thrill of being in Hollywood.

“This is gonna be the most amazing week of my life. This is so exciting!” a smiling Ward told the camera. “This is it. This is the dream, and it’s coming true now.”

But moments later, after a brief shot of Ward, who a graphic mistakenly said was from “Williamton, NC,” on stage in front of judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, Ward was part of a montage of heartbroken contestants who learned they were going home and would not advance.

So now that the secret is out, WWAY caught up with Ward Tuesday.

“My heart sank. I was like here it is it’s coming to an end. It’s over, the dream is over,” Ward said. “At the time I was crushed and I couldn’t tell a soul.”

Ward beat thousands of hopefuls across the country for a golden ticket to Hollywood to compete on “American Idol.”

“One of 169 out of thousands that tried out,” Ward said. “That’s, that’s within itself that’s a blessing.”

His talent is undeniable, but it was not enough to win over the star judges during Hollywood week.

“I honestly really thought that it went well,” Ward said.

Joshua said it was hard seeing himself get so upset on TV the moment he got the news.

“As I stood in that room, in that confessional room crying as y’all saw last night. I knew I was like, ‘Man, this sucks’ but it’s not the end I’m coming back. I’m not done,” Ward said. “I’m not going to let this knock me down, I’m getting back up again.”

However, being sent home did not quite break his spirit.

“This is just the beginning,” Ward said. “This was like, it’s just a stepping stone in God’s major plan for my life. He’s given me a gift. And this was the first part. It’s one little piece.”

It is an experience that Joshua will never forget.

“That within itself is a journey that I will always remember and will be in a special place in my heart. Because it was my dream,” Ward said.

Joshua said he plans to keep fighting for his dream to become a star.

“I can do this. They liked me and just because I got one no now doesn’t mean I won’t get a yes later,” Ward said. “I’m not gonna give up at all. I’m gonna be back next year. I promise.”

As for now Joshua plans to continue singing and perfecting his talent. He is also preparing for his school’s upcoming football season. On Sundays he will be singing with his parents at his church, Impact Church.

Ward will take his passion to the Azalea Festival Parade in downtown Wilmington on Saturday, April 14. He is scheduled to sing the National Anthem.

“American Idol” airs Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m. on WWAY ABC.

  • 2017 Arab Idol Winner Yacoub Shaheen, UNICEF run for children at Palestine …

2017 Arab Idol Winner Yacoub Shaheen, UNICEF run for children at Palestine Marathon

BETHLEHEM, March 22, 2018 – The 2017 Arab Idol Winner Yacoub Shaheen and children and adolescents coming from across the State of Palestine joined forces today to give the sixth international Palestine Marathon a rousing send off.

The singer and 13 children coming from marginalized communities across Palestine performed a new song before joining the race in support of children’s rights.

The children, who had travelled from different communities of the West Bank, including East

Jerusalem, sang the new song ’Dreams alone are not enough’ together with Shaheen on the stage of Manger Square in Bethlehem minutes before the Marathon started.

Shaheen, who grew up in the city, came to show support to children’s rights and promote healthy lifestyles.

“Everyone knows that exercise is good for you,” said Shaheen. “Today is also about having fun, singing and running with children and many other people, it is a great experience,” he added.

Many Palestinian girls and boys lack the chance to access quality learning and grow through sport and play, robbing them of some of the most important experiences of childhood. Insecurity, lack of adequate facilities and structured activities all impact on children’s opportunities to be more active.

“We’re here today with our own children to run for children in the State of Palestine,” said Genevieve Boutin, UNICEF’s Special Representative State of Palestine. “For children and youngpeople still developing, the physical and mental benefits of sport and play set the foundation for healthy development and life-long learning. It also gives them an opportunity to express themselves in a positive setting,” she added.

The song, ’Dreams alone are not enough’, which was composed especially for the event, includes lyrics written by 19 children in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Its concept was developed by the pop star, Shaheen.

The six children living in Gaza were not able to travel to Bethlehem and meet their Idol due to permit-related issues.

“I felt important when I came to this studio to record the song,” said Obada, a 16-year old boy from Hebron. “When I grow up, I want to be like Yacoub Shaheen.”

After performing the song, Shaheen, the children and UNICEF staff joined the race to express their support for children’s rights.

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. • Lilla VM igång – med "Idol"-besök

    16:43 | 2018-03-02

Under fredagen pågår basketmatcher i Sporthallen.
